When I first started hunting with my family, I didn't know there was a difference in bows. I was just taught to point and shoot. Well, as time went on, I soon learned that there is so much more to using a bow and the different types of bows that it made my head spin. Don't you feel that way too?

Also, with so many hyped review sites out there, it is hard to get a real account of the best Recurve bows available. Right? I'm an avid hunter and thought I would share my thoughts and experience of finding the right recurve bow with you.

I can't even count the times that a buddy of mine told me that I must get this kind of bow over that kind of bow. Moreover, How about the times when a new company launches a new variation of an old tried and exact model to make more sales? It's tough to know if the latest model is any better or even to make the switch.

SO, to eliminate all confusion, I want to take this opportunity to explain what a recurve bow is and what it does. So, here we go.

What is a Recurve Bow?

It's a bow with detachable limbs that curve away from the archer. This curve allows for the arrow to gain added power by the limbs rebounding harder as the arrow is propelled through the air. I like to say it gives it an extra oomph that allows me to shoot at my prey over long distances.

This kind of bow is great for the beginner to advanced archer because it allows you to adjust the tension of the recurve as your archery skills improve.

Not all of the recurve bows are alike

Some handles are made of metal, and some are made of wood, and some are very heavy, and some are lightweight. I prefer wood handles because they are warmer when I'm hunting in the winter and more lightweight.

I don't know about you but how many times have you had to go long distances in the woods then climb a tree and your out of breath because you're lugging around what feels like a ton of camping and hunting equipment? I'm sure you know the feeling!

Why I like the Spyder Takedown Recurve Bow

This bow is easy for me to put together, adjust, and carry around for the duration of my hunting trip.

It is well made for my type of hunting style compared to the massive amount of bows that I have tried out. Yes, I have tried out a lot of bows, and I wasn't exactly thrilled with most of them.

I am quite sure you know what I'm talking about. You get a new bow then take it out to give it a try and miss your prey and curse your way back to the store to return it for a refund. You know that feeling I'm sure.

Now, don't get me wrong. The Spyder Takedown Recurve Bow isn't perfect. I will go over the pros right now and then the cons more in a bit. But overall it does have a few good things going for it. I like the price range. I've seen it priced at $144.00 UDS. That's a very fair middle of the road price for a Takedown Recurve Bow. I like the fact that I can adjust the draw weight from 20 pounds to 60 pounds. I love the overall length of the bow, which is 62 inches.

Moreover, I like the way they designed the bow to be quickly disassembled so I can carry it with my hunting gear in my backpack. It is also lightweight and has reinforced limb tips. I especially like the Spyder Takedown Recurve Bow threaded inserts for accessories they came in handy on my last hunting trip. I decided not to break it down and go out hunting with the bare minimum gear.

You know how it goes, you and your buddy go camping, and you decide the last minute to go hunting. Only time will tell how durable this bow is, but so far it has held up pretty well during my hunting trips. BTW, when I purchased my bow, it came with a one-year manufacturer's warranty.

As I stated earlier, the Spyder Takedown Recurve Bow isn't perfect. It took me a while to get good at the assembly and disassembly of the recurve bow.

It does come with an Allen wrench and detailed instructions, but I still had to look it up on YouTube. It took me a while to figure out the best way to assemble, disassemble, and tighten the string in any setting.

I also assumed from their website that I could adjust my bow to any draw weight that I wanted. However, that was not the case. You have to order it by draw weight in the range from 20 to 60 pounds that come in 5-pound increments. This adds some research if you are new to archery to find out the draw weight that works best for you.

Additionally, make sure that you know if your a lefty or a righty archer. You could use either one, but the noise level goes up if you choose a bow that is not your natural way of shooting. I did that once.

I bought a bow that was a lefty and made so much noise that my buddies told me to use another bow or we were heading back. Did that ever happen to you before? I hope I'm not the only one!

The last Con that I have to offer is that the bow length only comes in 62 inches. I know, right? My buddy loves my bow, but he needs to use a 65-inch bow. So, My advice would be to make sure you know what size bow works for you before you order your Spyder Takedown Recurve Bow.
